NutritionWritten by Super User
According to the National Weight Registry 89% of people who have lost 30 or more pounds and kept it off for at least a year reached their goals through a combination of diet and exercise. Only 10% succeeded using diet alone and only 1% succeeded using exercise alone. So if weight loss is one of your goals, practicing proper nutrition is essential.
Exercise is only one aspect of living a healthy way of life. By exercising right but not addressing nutrition you are missing a key component to healthy living.
Just as our personal fitness trainers customize a workout specific to your body and fitness goals, our Nutritionist will help you understand your own specific nutritional needs and how to use this information to optimize your overall health.

What is Pilates?
Pilates is a systematically-designed form of whole body conditioning created over 80 years a go by Joseph H Pilates, fitness pioneer. Pilates’ method combined his studies of eastern and western philosophies of health: boxing, yoga, Tai Chi, Zen meditation, martial arts, gymnastics, diving, and body building. He designed over 500 exercises that strive to build strength and flexibility, restore muscular balance, improve body alignment and posture, and release tension. Every action is initiated and sustained from ones “powerhouse.” The “powerhouse” or “core” includes the abdominals, gluteals, hips, inner thighs, and lower back muscles. Engaging and working from ones’ center with every action, in addition to working with control, concentration, breathe, precision, and flow are what Joseph Pilates called his ‘principles’ for practicing Pilates. Joseph Pilates would often say, “One rep done well is better than several reps performed poorly.”
Why practice Pilates?
Pilates is the perfect compliment to your current exercise program. Do you strength train? Swim? Spin? Run? Yoga? Pilates mat? Golf? Tennis? Even if you are not currently active and new to fitness, Pilates is a great method to get you going on the right track as it is total body conditioning that is low impact and works with keeping the body aligned. Pilates is for anyone, competitive athletes and people who need to rehabilitate their bodies in a safe format. As Joseph Pilates said, “Anybody can do it. You can be young and athletic or old and crippled. It doesn’t matter.”
YogaWritten by Super User
Seattle Athletic Club understands that it isn't always easy to achieve a state of balance in the bustle of a big fitness facility. That's why our yoga classes are taught in a heated, softly lighted, peaceful yoga studio away from the bustle of the rest of the club.
Our certified, highly skilled instructors offer instruction in both traditional and contemporary styles of yoga, from the Hatha and Vinyasa disciplines to Iron Yoga, which incorporates light weights for a more intense practice. Whether you are new to yoga or have been practicing it for years we have a class that will fit you.
From veteran instructors and local favorites to innovative instructors, we are proud to employ only the finest instructors in the area. Our instructors are required to participate in extensive instructor training and continuing education so that they remain leaders in our industry.
Personal Fitness TrainingWritten by Super User
The fitness professionals at Seattle Athletic Club are among the most highly qualified personal trainers in the industry.
We require all of our trainers to meet stringent certification requirements from respected organizations such as;
- ACSM (The American College of Sports Medicine)
- NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association)
- NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine)
And we ask that they to advance their skills through yearly continuing education. As a result, our trainers have been recognized both nationally and locally, in publications such as Men's Health and Seattle Magazine.
In addition to superior education, each trainer has a unique specialization that takes their clients beyond basic exercise programs; Martial Arts, Triathlon, Boxing, Mountain Biking, Water Running, Group Training, Boot Camp, TRX, Kettlebells, Power Lifting, Youth Training, and Pre/Post Surgery to name just a few. Even with all this, we still boast some of the most affordable rates in the city. Our goal is to make our training services available to all our members, not just the select few.
Unlike most clubs in our region, Seattle Athletic Club personal fitness trainers are not paid on commission, and never sell products or supplements. The singular goal of our trainers is to ensure that you receive a safe and successful session. Whether your goal is weight loss, strength gain, improved athletic performance or stress relief, our experienced trainers can create a personalized exercise program to meet your needs, while offering support and motivation to help you stay on track.
Group ExerciseWritten by Super User
The idea behind group exercise is to enhance all health related components of fitness under the guidance of a qualified group exercise instructor. These components include cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition. Group exercise classes have grown to include sports conditioning, dance, step, indoor cycling, water classes, mind/body and more. A typical group exercise class is 60 minutes long and consists of a warm-up, cardiorespiratory segment and/or muscular strength and endurance segment, core work, cool-down and stretching. Seattle Athletic Club provides outstanding classes taught by some of the most experienced instructors in Seattle.
The group exercise instructors at Seattle Athletic Club are required to have at least 2 years teaching experience while maintaining current national certifications. Their experience and knowledge provide the foundation for the success of our participants. The professional instructors at SAC create an atmosphere that is safe and comfortable which allows participants to push themselves to succeed. The continuing education our instructors receive provides them with the most current research, which allows them to teach a safe and effective routine. In addition, the instructors at SAC are great coaches and motivators. Our excellent team of instructors will push you to reach your full potential while maintaining proper form and having fun doing it! Lastly, the state-of-the-art equipment provided in each studio will enhance your overall work-out.

Our fitness classes are sometimes traditional, often trendsetting and always fun. Choose from high-intensity strength conditioning programs that utilize steps, weights or high-energy workouts such as Kickboxing, Zumba and BODYPUMP.
