Cycling at Seattle Athletic Club

The idea behind indoor cycle classes is to enjoy the benefits of outdoor riding while improving health related components of fitness under the guidance of a qualified cycle instructor. These components include cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition. A typical cycle class is 60 minutes long and consists of a warm-up, speed work, endurance training, strength training, cool-down and stretching. Seattle Athletic Club provides outstanding classes taught by some of the most experienced instructors in Seattle.

The cycle instructors at Seattle Athletic Club are required to have at least 2 years teaching experience while maintaining current national certifications. Keiser M3 Bikes in detail

Keiser M3 Bikes in detail

The Keiser M3 bikes focus on power output. The understanding of the M3 resistance system can best be described in the explanation of the eddy current resistance and the formula for power (Power =Force x Velocity). Power (amount of work being done by the cyclist) = force (the amount of resistance) x velocity (the cadence the cyclist is pedaling). By pedaling faster, the difficulty increases along with the resistance. The same applies to the M3, at a set gear the resistance can be increased or decreased by adjusting the cyclist’s cadence. In this way the M3 closely matches the formula of an outdoor cyclist.

An eddy current is an electric current in a conducting material that results from induction by a moving or varying magnetic field. On the Keiser M3 this is generated by two opposing magnets passing over the flywheel. The flywheel (a conductor) passes through much of the flywheel comes into contact with the magnetic field you can increase or decrease the amount of resistance for the rider.
