Martial Arts at Seattle Athletic Club Downtown

The Seattle Athletic Club is proud to host the teachings of Master Jody Garcia, a certified 6th degree black belt in Shaolin Kempo Karate and a Master in Shaolin Kung Fu. He has been studying martial arts and energy work for 29 years and uses his experience to create challenging, fun, and cardio-intensive workouts in the Shaolin Kempo Karate style.

Students and enthusiasts of Martial Arts have many reasons for their interest in this and other martial art styles. Some are drawn to the physical fitness and weight-loss aspects of training; others seek to add discipline and self-control to their lives; while still others are concerned about safety and self-defense.

Boxing fundamentals 101

You will learn the fundamentals of boxing to give you the foundation to excel in this amazing art. The class will consist of learning speed bag, double end ball reaction training, heavy bag, stationary heavy bag, and focus mitt training. The goal is to have precision, and technique with an awesome work out.

Kick boxing fundamentals 201

The art of kick boxing will develop amazing foot speed, hand eye coordination, and awesome agility. You will learn how to use jump rope, agility ladders, double end ball reaction training, stationary heavy bag, combat combinations, proper punching, kicking, and guarding technique. The class is great for linear/lateral conditioning, and fluid movement.

Martial Arts Bootcamp

The class is action packed with constant movement. You will be training to push through boundaries physically, by doing training to make you fit for anything! The class will consist of a fusion of boxing, kick boxing, medicine ball, jump rope, battle ropes, sprinting, and body weight exercises. You will crank your metabolism up, and get in amazing shape while doing it! This class is group classes please check our specialized calendar for dates and times.

Self-Defense 301

Come learn the no nonsense approach to self-defense. You will learn how to use physics, and simple body mechanics to thwart off, and avoid a confrontation. (Preparation is the key to success) you need to practice, and teach the mind to react. You will go through drills with control, and given a practice sheet to practice on your own. You can do a session 1 on1 or get a group together to learn together.
